FUNDRAISING youngsters in Rednal will be creating a slice of history when they bury a time capsule as part of their summer fete and sports day.
The annual diary date is the main fund-raising event for St James Infant and Junior School, in Leach Heath Lane, and the whole community is invited.
Key stage two pupils took part in an out-of-school competition to design what they would put in the time capsule which is due to be buried this Saturday.
Eleven-year-old Sinead McCall came tops with her ideas which included a 2p coin, a catalogue page filled with electric toys, newspaper clippings of the eclipse, the Queen mum's 100th birthday and the front page of a paper dated January 1, 2000.
Her list included a doll wearing the school uniform, a picture of the Millennium Dome and the London Eye, Pokemon cards and a used mobile phone card.
The event, which will see a host of running and fun races including a heat for parents and past pupils, will also boast traditional stalls and a balloon race.
Headteacher Jeanette McMahon said: "This was an optional competition which youngsters could do in their own time.
"It wasn't school led and the children made a brilliant effort."
It runs from 12pm until 5pm this Saturday at the school.
