THE second top job at Worcestershire County Council has also fallen to the district of Bromsgrove, with a Hagley man being appointed chairman.
Cllr Peter Fallows (Con, Hagley and Furlongs), the longest-serving county councillor, was elected chairman at a meeting last Thursday.
In his acceptance speech, Cllr Fallows said he hoped to foster co-operation between the parties in the hung council and to help restore the reputation of local politics, which he felt had fallen since he first started out.
He told the Advertiser/Messenger: "The chairman is sometimes thought of just as going to functions, but I hope to take a rather wider role in steering the ship through what may be some stormy waters."
Cllr Fallow joined the original Worcestershire County Council in 1968.
He is the only county councillor to have been involved with the local authority before and after the merger with Herefordshire.
