I WOULD like to add to my truncated comments in the front-page article in last week's Journal regarding the Regal Cinema.
Put simply, the Evesham Regal Trust is not in a position to purchase the cinema. Our position is not helped by the fact that, although we have asked the owner to see the accounts, these have not been forthcoming.
Any business has two main aspects to a valuation, i.e. the value of buildings etc and the value of the business itself. Therefore without seeing audited accounts, we cannot value the whole business.
The Trust is confident that if it owned, or ran, the cinema, sufficient monies could be raised, through concerts and other fundraising events, to bring the interior of the cinema up to a very high standard.
We have been overwhelmed by offers to hold fundraising events, and this combined with general public support is very gratifying.
The Regal is important to Evesham but the Trust needs Wychavon Council, in order to facilitate a purchase. It has done it with No 8 in Pershore, and we, as the Regal Trust, sincerely hope that they will act over the Regal, and secure this important building and facility for the town.
MARTIN HAMMON, Chairman, The Evesham Regal Trust, Elm Road, Evesham.
