VETERAN all-rounder John Shepherd hit an unbeaten half-century and grabbed five wickets to win the Evening News/ Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.
The 64-year-old helped Royal Worcester Exiles to a 28-run win over Kempsey in the Worcester Eve-ning League Division Two.
His 53 helped Exiles reach 149-4 and he then took 5-19 with his off-breaks as Kempsey tumbled to 121 all out.
"I batted through and if the ball was there to be hit I hit it," he said.
The self-employed builder from Pinvin, who also plays for the Fossils, played for Birlingham for 40 years as well as Pershore and Fernhill Heath.
He did the double of 100 wickets and 1,000 runs, 11 years in a row at at Birlingham, who he still retains a soft spot for. "I could have gone to other teams but it was a such a nice little ground and I loved playing there," he said.
John is not yet thinking of hanging up his pads. "I really look forward to it and I shall keep going as long as I can keep moving," he said.
