TRADING Standards has issued a warning about a pyramid-style chain letter aimed at women.
Worcestershire County Council Trading Standards has received about 10 inquiries concerning the project which involves women handing over a "gift" of £3,000.
But consumer adviser Elizabeth Haines warned many could end up out-of-pocket. She said: "The opportunity is promoted by word of mouth only and arranged through meetings of friends.
"However, for every woman who makes a profit from the arrangement another eight may end up out-of-pocket. The money can only be recovered by recruiting eight women."
She added: "These type of ventures are tempting and appear "too good to be true". This is usually the case.
"This is not a safe investment and women are advised to consider the risks carefully before parting with any money."
It has been argued the scheme is a means of circumventing tax laws as £3,000 is the maximum amount that may be donated before tax is paid.
