CONTROVERSIAL proposals for traffic calming measures in Bewdley are to be discussed by a special working group.
Bewdley Town Council has agreed to set up a group after Worcester-shire County Council was forced to throw out plans for about 60 road humps in streets around Cleobury Road following an outcry at a public meeting.
About 150 residents opposing the scheme turned up to a presentation by the county council last month, forcing it to reconsider the original plans.
Stephen Groome told the town council that townsfolk had been given the wrong impression that proposals were an "all or nothing" package and Ian Read agreed, saying the working group could pick out the best parts of the scheme.
He said all interested parties - including headteachers, police and shopkeep- ers who feared the plans would turn Bewdley into a "ghost town" - would be brought together to come up with "a proper solution".
