A BALLETIC version of the tale of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet will be staged at the Arts Centre Theatre Evesham this weekend.
In a coup for the Victoria Avenue-based centre, Independent Ballet Wales will perform the work, thanks to sponsorship from Wychavon District Council.
The company will dance to Hector Berlioz's score, Romeo et Juliette, choreographed by Darius James.
Saturday's production features classicism with flashes of contemporary characterisation. This is reflected in colourful and vibrant costumes and a combination of classical ballet with modern street style.
There will be a youthful feel to the ballet, with young dancers performing roles intended to be played by young people.
Independent Ballet Wales is described by art centre spokesperson Lauri Griffith-Jones as a "wonderfully talented company".
She added: "It will be a wonderful climax to our 2000-2001 season, for a longstanding relationship with this ebullient and adventurous company has shown us what exciting performances they can create.
"Indeed, one enthusiastic member of the audience at their last show remarked how it is no longer necessary to go to the big venues in places like Birmingham to discover and enjoy the finest of ballet."
Tickets cost £7, with concessions for Evesham Arts Association members, OAPs and group bookings.
