ROSE SHOW: The village hall was ablaze with colour on Saturday, June 23, on the occasion of the Inkberrow and District Horticultural Society's Annual Rose Show, and Plant Sale. Exhibits, exhibitors and visitors were increased in numbers this year. Before presenting the awards the chairman, Mrs Pat Atkin, commented on the high standard of the exhibits and congratulated all entrants. She thanked all who had contributed, helped or purchased from the society's new venture a plant stall which had proved very successful. The Mary Hewlett Challenge Cup for most points gained in the rose classes was won by Malcolm Humphries the runner up was Pat Atkin and John Tromans was in third place.
Results: Rose judged for fragrance: 1 Mrs P Atkin; one bloom: 1 John Tromans; three blooms: 1 Col Shaw; five blooms: 1 Malcolm Humphries; three stage rose blooms: 1 M Humphries; one stem cluster roses: 1 M Humphries; three stems cluster roses: 1 M Humphries; three stems climbing rose: 1 Mrs Wyn Betteridge; three stems miniature roses: 1 M Humphries; three stems shrub rose: 1 Mrs P Atkin; herbaceous perennials: 1 Mrs W Betteridge; spray flowering shrub: 1 Mrs P Atkin; pot plant grown for flowers: 1 Mrs E Hodgkinson; pot plant grown for foliage: 1 J Tromans.
