STAFF and pupils at an Evesham school took part in a moving ceremony last week to remember a former pupil who died two years ago.
Staff at Bengeworth First School joined members of Christopher Withey's family to plant a maple tree in the school grounds in memory of the youngster who died, aged seven, in July 1999, from complications after suffering minor burns.
Pupils looked on tearfully during the ceremony led by the Rev Barry Collins, and Christopher's former class teacher, Tracey O'Keeffe-Pullan, read a tribute saying: "He was a vibrant and wonderful boy, much loved by family, friends and teachers."
She spoke of his "zest for life" and his "wonderful enthusiasm" for science and computers. A circular seat will be installed around the tree.
Christopher's mother and father, Lauretta and Steven, have also donated an award to be given every year to one child in each Year Two class for outstanding achievement in science in memory of Christopher.
