I AM writing re the article about what to do with the £66,000 earmarked for improving Priory Park. I was amazed to read that, in fact, the council cannot afford to employ a full-time gardener, whatever next!
How on earth can you keep a park looking neat and welcoming for the many visitors without a gardener? One of them spoke to me last year and remarked that it looked very uncared for. I think that she was right, with flowerbeds full of weeds and rubbish lying around, especially near the entrance to the Splash. The bin, which used to be near the gate seems to have disappeared. Who is responsible for this one, Splash or Council?
I don't know what is the answer to this problem but I suggest at least employ a full-time gardener or two and certainly put more flowerbeds or tubs near the theatre. And how about the area near the little stream? Nothing has been done there for years and there are no longer flowers or ferns growing there, as there used to be.
Parks abroad are a joy, particularly the ones in Calais. Every day there are at least three gardeners working away and you never see a weed.
Let us try to do all we can to make ours a joy too and something to be proud of. You never know, it may bring the visitors flooding back to Malvern!
