MALVERN College 1st XI drew with Rugby School on Saturday in a match ruined by a poorly judged declaration.
MALVERN COLLEGE v RUGBY SCHOOL
Rugby amassed 258-7 declared but took 61 overs to do it, leaving Malvern only 43 overs to make a reply.
Tolchard and Bailey batted sensibly in response, putting on 53 for the first wicket before the introduction of spin sent a shudder through the Malvern innings.
Four wickets fell in quick succession but Cartwright and Murtagh batted out resolutely to prevent Rugby from winning a match they scarcely deserved, not that Malvern had played much better.
