ON A breezy Saturday afternoon Barnards Green 3rds took the trip to Worcester CC and came away losers by 16 runs.
WORCESTER 3RD XI v BARNARDS GREEN 3RD XI
Batting first Worcester got off to a solid start and had reached 110 for one off just 18 overs after some loose bowling, however the introduction of the experienced Phil Spencer one for 28 off eight and Rob Lewis four for 45 off 15 plus two smart run outs by Luke Marshall reduced Worcester to 187 for eight, but some loose late overs and poor fielding allowed Worcester to finish on 220.
A special mention to eleven year old Phil Harris playing his first game at senior level, who took a good catch to dismiss the dangerous Levy, fielded excellently throughout and was unlucky to have a catch dropped off his over.
In reply the Green lost Jones early on before Andy Wheeler (48) and Simon Cooke (60) crashed the ball to all parts of the ground and at 112-1 off just 17 overs the Green appeared to be cruising to victory.
Wheeler's excellent innings came to an end when he dragged a ball on and Cooke lobbed a ball to mid wicket.
Thereafter Luke Marshall (15) and Rob Lewis (25) made useful contributions and just when skipper Robin Longmore (29) looked like seeing the Green home, he was bowled by a peach from Harris who finished with four for 66.
Phil Harris held his end up admirably but when Harry Gregory was caught in the covers, Worcester had won by 16 runs.
