The Malvern Gazette recently published a team photograph taken in 1911, which had been given to West Malvern Cricket Club. Chairman Bob Blackbourn, asked if readers recognised the location or any of the team members.
We have had a good response from John Gwynne, Charles Grundy and Bill Lines, who identified his uncle James Dalton. Mr and Mrs Tim Brazier found a copy of the Malvern News for 1911, which listed fixtures and results and provide the names of many of the players, some of whom were known to Mr Brazier in their later years.
Those identified so far are James Dalton, George Grundy, Hugh Wall, S Tasker, S Bannister and C Withy, headmaster at St Edward's Orphanage in West Malvern. Those who contacted us mentioned that they thought the matches had been played in a field somewhere near Park Lane at the south west end of the village.
