Last week we conveyed the gratifying intelligence that the price of gas would be reduced from 3s. 9d. per 1,000 cubic feet after the end of September next, and today we make the additionally pleasing announcement of a reduction of 3d. in the £ in the General District Rate. Many of our readers are aware that Miss Curtis has again kindly invited the members of Ledbury Cycling Club and others in the town to a garden party at Coddington Rectory. But a word of warning. Last time dire calamities awaited the cyclists. On top of Wellington Heath were planted the captain, the honorary secretary, an affectionate couple and sundry other members, all looking for Coddington! Another member sat patiently for two hours at Coddington Cross, waiting for the club that never came. Ledbury Free Press, July 9, 1901.

Unless a knickerbocker suit is forthcoming, Malvern Pageant may be without the figure of George Bernard Shaw, known as Malvern's "patron saint". Miss Gwen Lally, pageant master, has appealed for the loan of one of the suits that GBS made famous when he visited the district. Malvern Gazette, July 6, 1951.
The seriousness of the shortage of piped water supply was again mentioned at the monthly meeting of Newent Rural Council, when Mr A W Southall asked if there was any likelihood of a piped water supply being laid to Cliffords Mesne in the near future. Ledbury Reporter, July 6, 1951.

Malvern had its hottest day on record last Saturday, when the temperature reached 95F in the shade. It easily surpassed last August's peak of 92F, which was the highest previous figure since records were first kept 64 years ago. Malvern Gazette, July 8, 1976.
Movie makers have been filming in Ledbury again, hoping to include the town's famous cobbled street in a follow-up to an Oscar-winning success. It is not every sunny day that stars like Jim Dale, Peter Firth and Michael Hordern land on the doorstep. Director Tony Richardson hopes to make the film Joseph Andrews a similar success to his adaptation of Tom Jones. Ledbury Reporter, July 8, 1976.
