LIZ Evans has put the Worcestershire Golf Club on the map by winning a final of the LGU Gold Medal Competition for Silver Division at Sherborne in Dorset with a three below par score of net 69.
Evans was one of only four players to break par and won on count back from two other players. She qualified by having the four best medal scores last year and by being in the top 100 who entered.
A well supported Lady Captain's Day was a real scorcher with 11 ladies reducing their handicaps on one of the hottest days of the year.
June Jones, Ladies Captain, arranged a broad spectrum of prizes, nearest the pin, front and back nines, hidden holes and birdies.
The Lady Captain's Salver for the overall winner was won by Julia Radley with an excellent 41 Stableford points. Best gross was Cath Francis. Division One winner was Marcia McFarlane 40, Division Two Pam Emery-Reynolds 40, Division Three Zena Lloyd 39. Runner-up Division One was U Pearson 39, Division Two J Tromans 39, Division Three M Bellamy 36. Third Division One was E Lewis 39, Division Two S Agnew 38, Division Three H Simpson 35. Winner of the 12 hole Stableford was D Moore 23 , runner-up on count back E Davy 21.
The June LGU Medal Silver Division was won by D Meakin net 72, runner-up C E Lewis. Bronze Division J Paget net 67, runner-up B M Evans net 70 on count back from M Bellamy, 40-45 handicap Stableford winners was Ann Goode 40 points.
The excellent greens proved a winner for J Bunyan with only 28 putts in the Gripper putting competition run in conjunction with the Medal, runner-up J Haworth 29 putts on count back from R Scott.
The Grannies Cup and Peg Evans Centenary Cup have both resulted in further 18 hole play offs, A Read and S Agnew with net 66's compete for the Grannies Cup. B Wilkinson, P Longley and E Evans all with 42 Stableford points will compete for the Peg Evans Centenary Cup.
A second win was achieved for our scratch team against Wormley Golf Club and the Droitwich Inter-Club League team won their matches against Halesowen and North Worcestershire Golf Clubs.
