WORCESTER finished their season fourth in Division One of the Birmingham and District Cricket League after a last-gasp win over Bedworth on Saturday.
Visiting Bedworth came for Worcester's final fixture of the season and looked set to spoil the party until the outstanding wicketkeeper Adam Binks came to the crease.
Chasing 205 for victory, on a slow pitch, Worcester lost early wickets to slump to 39-3. Skipper Chris Eyers and Kiwi Leighton Hammond (49) then added 59 for the fourth wicket but both were dismissed before the score had reached 100.
Worcester lost two more wickets to find themselves on 134-8 and a draw looked to be their only hope with a further 71 runs required off the last ten overs. Hero Binks strode to the wicket and smashed an aggressive 59 not out, clinching victory with 14 runs coming off the last over.
He received good support from Mark Chambers who made an unbeaten 16 as the pair added an unbroken partnership of 73 runs to see their side to victory.
Earlier, Bedworth reached 204-9 off their 55 overs thanks to Hugh Patel making a quick-fire 55, and Paul Haynes 36. Phil Knight passed 50 wickets for the season, taking 3-68, while Hammond took 3-55. Worcester took 20 points, Bedworth 6.
n Worcester's 2nd XI ended the season on a disappointing note, losing at Norton to Pelsall by three wickets. Worcester could only manage 155 in 45 overs with Dan Tarver top scoring with 28.
Keith Smith grabbed 4-27 for the visitors. Worcester fought hard in the field but Paul Pennell made a sound 50 to take the visitors to 159-7 in the 48th over. Dormston Cook bowled well for Worcester to take 5-50 in 24 overs.
Worcester 2nds took four points to Pelsall's 20.
