WORCESTERSHIRE are planning to strengthen their squad for next season.
New Road chairman John Elliott has revealed that money will be made available for new players and that Director of Cricket Tom Moody is searching the market for potential targets.
Elliott's vow comes at a time when the usual end-of-season rumour mill grinds out speculation about which players are in Worcestershire's sights for next year.
Unconfirmed names are al-ready starting to be linked with the County, including York-shire's 24-year-old Leeds-born paceman Paul Hutchison.
Elliott said: "We are looking to strengthen the squad, but this year with Tom Moody in charge we have basically left it to him.
"I know some of the players he's after, but I'm not able to say at the moment.
"But I know we are desperately keen to strengthen our squad and our aim through this winter is to make the money available for Tom to do that.
"We have been lucky with in-juries this season.
"Two lads have not played all season, but the rest of them have kept themselves injury free. But we need a bit more depth in the squad and we have irons in the fire.
"Several things are going on but we can't really say yet until players are out of contract.
"But we are in the market. We could sign two or three hopefully, but in the world we are in we could sign nobody, but we are desperately looking to improve the squad and strengthen it.
"We have left it to Tom to search the market and sort out players. Once they make a commitment the committee will give the yes or no to it."
The County complete their campaign with two home matches - in the Championship against Middlesex, which starts on Wednesday, and against Essex in the Norwich Union League Division Two on Sun-day.
