KIDDERMINSTER Carolians missed a number of penalties but still proved too strong for Ludlow as they ran out 20-13 victors in the second round of the Intermediate Cup.

Ludlow's stand-off Mark Williams scored all his side's points and gave then an eighth minute lead with a penalty while KCs promptly missed two kicks in two minutes.

But the visitors took the lead through Jason Sunderland following good work by Eddie Ross and Andy Stooksbury's converted to make it 7-3.

Five minutes later he kicked a penalty to increase KCs lead.

Williams kicked his second penalty to leave Ludlow trailing 6-10 at half time.

KCs scored their second try through hooker Matt Such but Ludlow bounced back with a try and conversion by Williams to leave them trailing by just two points 15-13 with 18 minutes remaining.

In injury time Simon Northcott added a third try for KCs.

Coach Ross Baxter, sidelined with a leg injury, said: "The team hustled and bustled about but never seemed able to sustain their efforts for any length of time.

"Ludlow were allowed to disrupt and had Kidderminster built a bigger gap score-wise then I feel we could have opened up.

"We have not been expansive in recent weeks, but did show a little bit of that style this time."

A depleted Pershore side put up a brave showing as they were thumped 52-0 by higher league opponents Old Laurentians in the second of the Intermediate Cup.

The home side scored regular tries as they played at pace and won excellent ball allowing their speedy backs to create mayhem.

Pershore now turn their attentions to next week's home League clash with Old Sillhillians where they will hopefully have most of their injured players back in contention.

Evesham were also knocked out of the Intermediate Cup, losing 32-5 at home to Kenilworth while Redditch were narrowly defeated 13-9 at Edwardians. Luctonians, however, made progress with a 52-6 win at Shrewsbury.
