Colin Larkin's brave winner prevented Kidderminster Harriers from slipping to a LDV Vans Trophy first round shock at Conference side Doncaster.
A double substitution by boss Jan Molby provided the springboard for the result as his new attacking formation secured the only goal of a hard-fought game with 18 minutes left.
However, Larkin was injured in the process of scoring and had to leave the field, while Molby was banished to the stand after arguing with the officials.
Doncaster had probably enjoyed the better of the first half but Harriers, with defender Craig Hinton inspirational, defended solidly to keep the home side's chances to a minimum.
Harriers then fired plenty of shots in on keeper Barry Richardson after the break and could have scored more in the end but did enough to earn a place in the second round.
Harriers have now kept three clean sheets in a row and are unbeaten in those games.
