A BURGLAR who raided five Malvern homes admitted carrying out 41 other offences in the town.

Toby Dennis pointed out properties he had visited to police after he was arrested in September.

Droitwich magistrates heard, yesterday, the 26-year-old was only arrested after a number of suspicious items were found in his car by officers carrying out a routine check.

A house in Holy Well Road was raided some time between 10pm on Friday, September 6, and 5.25am on Saturday, September 8.

More than £5,000 of property was stolen in the burglary while the householders slept.

Dennis was stopped by police at 10am on Saturday, September 8, as he drove on the A38 near Tewkesbury.

A search of his car found six mobile phones, and papers relating to the burgled house.

"The police executed a search at his house in Cowleigh Road, Malvern, and found a large quantity of property believed to be proceeds of burglaries," said Suzanne Llewellyn, prosecuting.

"When they searched the defendant they found a quantity of heroin hidden between his buttocks.

"He told police the property was given to him by another person and the heroin was someone else's."

But father-of-two Dennis admitted five burglaries, possession of heroin, driving without MOT, driving without insurance, and two charges of driving while disqualified.

Co-operative

"Toby Dennis has been fairly co-operative with the police," said Nick Roberts, defending.

"He's gone out with the police and pointed out all the places where he's been.

"These are places where they didn't have evidence to charge him.

"It's fair to say he had a problem with drugs but since he's been in custody he is clean."

He told the court that Dennis was currently grieving for his stepfather who shot himself dead last week.

He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, November 16.

Magistrates gave him an absolute discharge for driving without an MOT.
