A £1.5 million landscaping project in Redditch which will see hundreds of trees felled has sparked concern about wildlife.
Fears were voiced at a Church Hill neighbourhood group meeting when Redditch Council informed residents of the three-year scheme.
Simon Dix, an RSPCA inspector, said: "I want to remind the council of their responsibilities under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
"A classic example was when work on the Arrow Valley Countryside Centre had to stop.
"It was supposed to be a countryside centre and it was destroying a habitat at a time when it was being used by nesting birds."
The council's north area director, Barbara Webster, said they had an issue in Batchley when they were putting a play area in and had to be very careful and liaise with the RSPB.
