THE Inner Wheel club of Droitwich Spa held their September meeting at the Raven Hotel. Before the business began, immediate past president Marion Neale presented a cheque for £1,000 to Barbara Garrad who represented Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Mrs Garrad thanked the club for raising the money and presented Mrs Neale with a framed certificate to mark the occasion.

The speaker for the evening was Mr Chris Price who gave an insight into the work of the Acorn's Hospice Trust, the club's main charity this year. The trust has cared for life limited children and their families for over ten years in the West Midland region, with purpose-built hospices in Birmingham and Walsall. Mr Price then outlined the plans for the hospice to be built in Worcester, hopefully completed by 2002. This will cost £4m and £1m thereafter to maintain and run. Many of the workers are volunteers, and 75 per cent of the running costs are raised by clubs, hospice shops and coffee mornings. No donation is too small.
