ALCESTER have been boosted by the news Mat Gwyn's weekend injury was not as serious as first feared.
The fly-half missed much of last season after tearing knee ligaments and went down clutching the same knee in Saturday's 52-12 thrashing of Harbury.
But he has only tweaked the ligament and will be sidelined for weeks rather than months.
The diagnosis was welcomed by captain Alan Williams who led his side to their fourth win in six matches with the one-sided friendly against Warwickshire Two opposition.
And Williams is hoping to make it five at home to Manor Park in the league on Saturday (ko 3pm).
Alcester hold a psychological advantage after thrashing Saturday's opponents 43-0 in a pre-season friendly.
Second row Paddy Arben made a winning debut and Scott Carmichael, another player back after a long-term injury last season, is a natural replacement for Gwyn.
