JAN Molby was in hot water with referee Mark Clattenburg after striker Colin Larkin scored Kidderminster Harriers' winner in last night's 1-0 LDV Vans Trophy first round triumph at Doncaster Rovers.

The Harriers' chief was ordered to sit in the stand after he clashed with the official over the way Larkin was challenged by Rovers' goalkeeper Barry Richardson.

Assistant Aggborough boss Gary Barnett said afterwards: "From where we were sat their goalkeeper appears to have followed through on Larkin after he placed the ball past him.

"It was a dangerous challenge that could have injured Colin seriously and the gaffer was understandably unhappy about this."

Barnett confirmed that Molby was not sent from the bench for his comments to the referee, but for refusing to sit down when asked.

The incident with Larkin means the on-loan striker from Wolves is now a doubtful starter for Harriers' Division Three clash at Carlisle United on Saturday.

The 19-year-old pounced in the 72nd minute when he ran onto a through ball from Drewe Broughton before knocking the ball over the on-rushing Richardson.

It stretched steadily improving Harriers unbeaten run to three matches, which they managed to achieve despite a disappointing first half performance last night.

Barnett said: "We weren't at the races in the first half and we let them dominate large parts of possession. If we were to win that had to change quickly and when we reverted to a 4-3-3 formation early in the second half we began to play some nice stuff. I thought we fully deserved to win."

Nationwide Conference outfit Doncaster wasted a great chance to go ahead on the half hour mark when Gareth Owen blazed over the bar with an open goal in front of him.

Unlucky Owen then had a 20 yard free-kick crash against the bar before Kidderminster started to become more theatening.

Midfielder Mark Blake missed out with a point-blank header before Larkin was injured in putting Harriers into the draw for the next round.

Doncaster tried hard to get back on terms but were kept at bay by a solid Kidderminster rear-guard in which Craig Hinton impressed.

Kidderminster: Nixon 6, Clarkson 6, Joy 6, Bennett 7, Hinton 8, Shail 6, Bird 6 (Larkin 60, 6, Hadley, 77), Williams 6, Broughton 6, Foster 6, Shilton 6 (Blake, 60, 6). Subs (not used): Murphy, Davies.
