DEAR EDITOR -- I wonder who was responsible for the timing of the closure (at two weeks notice) of the Droitwich Waste Disposal site at Hanbury Road for 20 weeks from September 23?
As every householder with a garden knows, this is the period when the requirement for the disposal of garden rubbish is at its greatest.
The grass is still growing, the leaves falling fast and furious, then there is the clearing of summer annuals, pruning of trees etc.
The suggestion that we should compost all garden waste is impractical, mainly for reasons of space and not all garden refuse is suitable for composting.
The alternative of using the Worcester, Redditch or Pershore sites is also impractical for a very old age pensioner like myself who collects about four bags of leaves a week, apart from several bags of other garden refuse.
The only alternative that I can see is for the operatives to be allowed to collect more than the customary two bags of waste per week, and that the intervals between Saturday special collections be reduced.
The optimum time for the closure of this site is surely the 20 weeks after Christmas.
Autumnal,
Droitwich,
