BEWDLEY'S Bill Drew took a close verdict at the Woodlands View Tuesday affordable open. Drawn on high pool peg 12, he pole fished worm up in the water for 53-2-0. Chris Haines (Haines Tackle) had 52-15-0 from Arles peg 12 for second place with yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) in third spot with 45-11-0.

The Starlets Veterans held their Tuesday contest on Moorlands Farms Bank and Moors Pools and it was Brian Hill (Stourport) that took the honours by pole fishing double casters at Moors peg 21 for 43-9-0. Second John Allington (Hereford) 21-6-0, third Jim Gould (Bewdley) 20-14-0.

On Wednesday the Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open was won by Mark Roberson (Dac Mossella) with 21-0-0 from peg 20. Jim Keerley (Weoley Castle) was second with 17-0-0 and his club mate John Worral was third with 12-4-0.

Thursday saw Telfish AC fish its wines and spirits and KO semi-finals on Lower Broadheaths Island Pool with Keith Butler taking a top catch 36-13-8 of carp with pole and corn from the first peg on the back straight. John Mallin fished red maggots with block end feeder at the opposite end of the same bank for a second placed 29-0-8, third Dick Dark 24-6-8. Yours truly threw the match away by losing nine carp to the island snags and took fourth place with an 18-8-0 catch which got me through to the KO final against John Mallin at the next contest.

The Starlets Veterans Thursday contest was held at Worcester Barbourne AC Club pool near Cotheridge and it was Harold Willey (Kidderminster) that took the honours with a 56-15-0 small carp catch taken with pole and meat from peg 19. Alan Ryan (Worcs) was second with 47-12-0, third Pat Kavanagh (Stourbridge) 39-0-0, fourth Mick Taylor (Northfield) 33-15-0.

At Moorlands Farm the Thursday Special Open was won by Mark Toze (Leehall) with a pole and corn catch of 84-2-0 from Meadow pool peg 42. Second Mark Moseley (Wassell Grove) 73-14-0, third Joe Lowe (Strettons) 72-0-0.

Friday's cost cutter open was held on the Bank Pool with Birmingham Angler Pete Gould (Lucas) topping the list with 58-10-0 of carp taken with pole and corn from peg 10. Second Tony Parker (DC Lifestyle) 51-12-0, third Colin Pace (Bilston) 49-10-0.

On Saturday the Ovation Leisure Open was held on Lower Broadheaths Sycamore Pool with Rubery matchman Keith Woodhead (Ovation Leisure) taking top spot from peg five by pole fishing worm with maggots for 50-10-0 of carp up to the ten pound mark. Second place went to yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) with 45-11-0, third Chris Newton (Redditch) 44-0-0.

Winter is obviously around the corner but with a mini Indian summer it seems a little strange reporting the first winter league result from Moorlands Farm.

Seventeen teams of four took part on the bank, meadow and moors pools and just six ounces separated the top two places, headed by Neville Groves (Moorlands AC) who pole fished corn at five metres from bank peg 9 for 103-14-0. Second Lee Nutland (Mossella South West) 103-8-0, third David James (Shakespeare) 77-3-0.

Shakespeare got off to a good start with 59 points, Lifestyle VDE were second with 57, third team Wesson 49. At Woodlands View the Deans pool open was won by Chris Robson (AOK) with a pole and corn catch of 124-4-0 from peg 36. Stan Taylor (Woodlands) followed with 85-8-0, third Alistair Chisholm (ASF) 74-13-0.

Sunday's Deans Pool open saw Kevin Slade (AOK) pole fish meat at peg 36 for a top catch 95-2-0. Second Nathan Watson (Woodlands) 65-10-0, third Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 61-2-0. The 100 AC fished its Annual contest and KO semi final on the Grand Union Canal near Knowle at the Black Boy Pub, with Halesowens Stuart Cutler taking the honours by alternating caster and worms at peg 80 for six bream for 12-15-8.

Club chairman Steve Marke had two bream and chub for a second placed 7-15-0, third Ken Butler 4-9-4. Through to the KO final are Steve Marke and a fourth placed yours truly with a 3-3-8 catch. Long Nuke AC fished its last contest after being formed nearly 40 years ago. The club was struggling to attract new members said a sad secretary John Miller. The match was fished on Lower Broadheaths Island Pool with winner Don Perks feeder fishing maggots from the middle of the back bank for 18-12-0 of carp. John Miller was second with 11-6-0, third Jim Pedley 11-4-8. Kidderminster Harriers AC fished its event on Silligroves match pool with Dan Amphlett taking first place with a pole and maggot catch of 23-9-0. Second Paul Hyde 15-12-0, third Julian Manager 12-13-0. Silligroves top trout catch of the week was taken by Stourbridge's Bill Barley who fished black lures for 10 rainbows the best at six pounds and a three pound brownie.

The Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open saw Mark Burns (Stevens Tackle) pole fish pellets at 15 metre at peg four for 65-4-0. Doug Bennett (Hewell Road) followed with 39-2-0, third Phil Launchbury (Noahs Ark AC) 31-7-0.

Moorlands Farms Bank and Meadow Pool open was another big scoring event with Bill Hill (Warley) showing the way by pole fishing corn at bank pool peg 21 for 104-12-0. Neville Groves (Moorlands) was second from Meadow peg 53 with 90-12-0, third Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 85-14-0.
