PLANS are afoot to create "something akin to a Council for Voluntary Services" in Bromsgrove.

In July, the Bromsgrove Volunteer Bureau, in Church Street, was closed after it failed to secure further funding from the National Lottery Charity Board.

But the organisation has not disbanded and is currently considering its option.

Bromsgrove and District Volunteer Bureau and Community Resource Centre chairman Phil Baker has now written to Bromsgrove District Council inquiring whether it is possible to use either the Council Chamber or the Committee Room, at the Council House, in Burcot Lane, for a consultative meeting.

In a letter to the cabinet, Mr Baker said it was unlikely the service would resume in its previous form as it would not be viable.

But the organisation's executive committee believed a formal umbrella organisation for all voluntary bodies in the Bromsgrove district would be "desirable and a realistic objective."

He is hoping to hold the meeting with relevant organisations on November 13 or 14.

The authority's executive cabinet is due to discuss the matter at a meeting tonight.
