A TOUGH-TALKING Bromsgrove youngster determined to make sure young people have their say has promised action not just words.

Joe Durnall, of All Saints' Road, is one of just three people from Worcestershire chosen to represent the county in the UK Youth Parliament - a national movement lead by young people.

The 13-year-old, who attends North Bromsgrove High School, was chosen as a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) from a group of 11 to 18-years-old during elections last December.

It held its first sitting of more than 400 MYPs in London in February to develop a manifesto based on the hopes, fears, issues and ideas of young people.

Joe, alongside the two other Worcestershire members, has recently been meeting young people across the county, including those from Droitwich Spa, as part of a series of Speak Hear meetings looking at issues such as transport.

The Speak Hear team is a partnership between the Youth Parliament and Worcestershire County Council's youth service.

The MYPs have now told the authority's children and young people panel action will be taken following the discussions.

Joe said: "We've had a lot of interest at Speak Hear forums, where we talk with others our age about things that affect us.

"But we want to get things changed, we're not going to be just talking shop."

The next session, focusing on transport, is at Abberley Village Hall, tonight between 7pm and 9pm.
