BROMSGROVE Swimming Club deservedly won the Asda Trophy at the club's recent home gala.

An extremely enthusiastic performance was given by all swimmers. The Bromsgrove team encompassed a novice group of swimmers, some of whom experienced their first competitive swim.

The evening started with the nine-year girls 4x1 freestyle relay team, led by Victoria Law with Nia Luke, Rachel McCartney and Naomi Barrett, bringing the team home to take first place.

Jamie Farrin pounded home with a first in the boys under-11 25m freestyle event, soon to be followed by newcomer Christopher Perkes, taking another first place in the nine-year boys 25m backstroke.

This set the scene for the whole competition. The girls 6x1 length breaststroke relay team proved to be a challenge to the visiting teams with newcomers Laura Andrews, Megan Jenkinson and Lyndsay Foulkes as the group were just pipped at the post in second place.

Sophie Harries showed strength in winning the under-11 25m butterfly and then joining the winning girls under-11 medley relay team. Hannah Brehaut, Elisabeth Gallagher and Amy Wright led the other teams generously on each leg.

Amy also took first place in the girls under-11 25m backstroke. Elisabeth's brother, Robert, won the boys nine year 25m freestyle.

Bromsgrove's more experienced swimmers came home with personal bests. They were Kirsty Wagg, Richie Edmunds, Matthew Williams, Sophie Andrews, Sarah Swan, Daniel Poulter, William Law and Tom Mansell.

The evening concluded with the 6x1 length mixed age group cannon and town's nine-year-olds Victoria Law and Stephen Ashford paved the way for a successful finish.
