DROITWICH entertained the medical students of Birmingham University on Saturday and came away with a victory.

Medics started brightly and scored a well-deserved converted try, although the Spa side seemed to get their act together.

After good work by the forwards, winger Dave Halsall forced his way over. The half time score remained at 5-7.

Early in the second half centre Sascha Hobbs put Droitwich ahead with a drop goal, although Medics worked the ball well up the flank to retake the lead with a converted try.

The introduction of veteran Graham Andrews seemed to galvanise the home effort, and it was a cheeky dummy by the second row man that saw him score and restore Droitwich's lead.

Droitwich's pack then seemed to find some rhythm, enabling full back Ben Cottrell to kick two penalties, one a real beauty from 45 yards.

The scoring was complete when fly half Neil Evans rounded off a slick back move to score.

Despite a somewhat disjointed performance, Droitwich will be pleased with a victory.

Debutantes Lee Mortlock at scrum half and Phil Hobbs at hooker had satisfactory games. It is hoped Droitwich are now in a winning habit and will string some good league results together.
