TWO marathon men stopped off at a Redditch pub on Thursday as part of a 512-mile trek in aid of meningitis research.

Steve Dayman and Steve Fear called in at The Oast House Inn, Papermill Drive, Church Hill on their way from Newcastle's Tyne Bridge to the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth - a trip taking 23 days.

The visit was part of the Bridge the Gap Walk which aims to raise £80,000 to support Bristol-based Spencer Dayman Meningitis Laboratories' vision to see a single vaccine for all forms of meningococcal meningitis.

The intrepid walkers left Newcastle on September 29 and, after moving on from Redditch through the villages of Inkberrow and Flyford Flavell, are due to arrive at their Plymouth destination on Sunday.
