RUMOURS suggesting Steve Daniels was touted for the vacant managers job at Hednesford Town have been quashed by Bromsgrove Rovers chairman Tom Herbert.

Daniels revealed a spokesman claiming to be from the Dr Martens League Premier Division strugglers had asked him to go for talks about the job last Thursday, two days before Kenny Hibbitt was named as the Pitmen's new boss.

The Greens manager flatly refused the tempting offer while Herbert confirmed the rumour was kept away from Rovers' players ahead of Saturday's draw against Oadby Town.

Herbert rapped: "It's a load of rubbish. We're going to get this all the time because we've got a good team now.

"Steve Daniels wants to stay and is here on a week-to-week basis. I don't believe in giving any manager a contract because they just leave when they want to anyway.

"If he approaches me about a contract then we might have a talk about it but I've got more important things going on at the moment. I've got to get this club on an even keel. I want to get more people through the turnstiles and buying season tickets."

Daniels admitted he was non-plussed by the job mystery.

HAPPY

"My stance stays the same," he admitted. "I'm happy at Bromsgrove. I've started what is a very difficult job for everyone concerned. Now we're beginning to turn it round and bear the fruits of our labour."

More good news on the horizon is that Rovers should officially be free from administration on Monday October 29 when Mayfields Insolvency Practitioners return to court and ask to be relieved as administrators. This follows a successful creditors' meeting last Thursday.
