POLICE were called to a row between a driver and a number of horse riders out on a trek to raise awareness about road safety on Saturday.

The Ride for Road Safety Day was organised by the British Horse Society and one aim was to highlight to drivers the need to be considerate to riders.

But at about 1pm in Tanyard Lane, Alvechurch, four riders called the police after becoming involved in a dispute with a driver.

A police spokesman said: "The police were called to a public order incident.

The driver was going down a narrow road and past some horses being ridden in single file then he came to a group of four riding two a breast."

The police spokesman said the driver stopped and got out to air his opinion and an argument ensued.

Rider Jenny Eakins said: "I was amazed something like that happened on a ride for road safety day. But horse riders are vulnerable and this sort of thing happens a lot."
