THE Redditch Advertiser's Memory Lane section is a firm favourite with more than 150 people who listen to the popular Talking Newspaper every week, writes Becky Procter.

The news comes as the charity, which enables blind people to listen to the Advertiser on tape, prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, October 27.

Based in Community House, Easemore Road, Redditch Talking Newspaper is recorded using selected articles from the Advertiser and delivered as far afield as York.

When it began in 1976 the Talking Newspaper, which costs up to £1,500-a-year to run, was delivered to just 10 people.

More than 30 volunteers help prepare the cuttings, do the readings, the recordings and clean the tapes.

Mrs Mountford added: "We try and put as much from the paper on tape as possible, including the sport section. And we also describe the photographs which go in.

"Memory Lane is very popular as is the leisure and what's on section."

A celebration lunch is being held at Community House from noon on October 27 and it is hoped past and present volunteers, founder members and supporters will attend.
