POOR TV reception in parts of Redditch cannot be solved unless residents go digital according to a letter from the BBC to town MP Jacqui Smith, writes Julian Seva.

Ms Smith wrote to the corporation after a complaint from a Church Hill South resident about particularly poor reception over a 20-year period.

The BBC says the likely cause of the fuzzy signal is housing development in that area.

Vaughan Reynolds, of BBC Reception Advice, told Ms Smith that in a certain locations it may never be possible to obtain a satisfactory terrestrial reception even with booster aerials.

Edward Horton, of Winyates, also contacted the Advertiser to complain about his fuzzy reception, which he has had for years.

The BBC said this problem was unlikely to be connected with poor TV reception in the West of Redditch attributed to a new building at Rover's Longbridge plant.
