THROWING stones on to a railway track has landed a Malvern schoolboy and his partner-in-crime in court.

The pint-sized 13-year-old and his 12-year-old pal could have put train passengers at risk, Droitwich magistrates were told.

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sabotaged the line near Malvern on Wednesday, September 26, said Peter Parson, prosecuting.

"Basically, they placed some piles of stones on the railway line - little piles," he said.

"Fortunately, nothing was affected by them, though there was potential for that."

The 13-year-old, from Malvern, admitted obstructing a railway carriage or engine by placing stones on the track.

The wording of the charge had been changed from "placing wood, plastic and stones".

Louise Hooker, defending the teenager, said he had been given an 18-month detention and training order by a judge at Worcester Crown Court last Friday.

She asked for the case be adjourned to Wednesday, October 31, when he is due before Droitwich magistrates on other matters.

At a hearing later in the day, his friend, also from Malvern, denied obstructing a railway carriage or engine by placing wood, plastic and stones on the track.

But he did admit using threatening words or behaviour.

The 13-year-old, who is in custody, had his case adjourned to Wednesday, October 31. His friend will appear next Wednesday when he is also due to face other matters.
