WE at Blue Peter would like to invite teachers and pupils in schools across the country to join the fun and take part in the Mencap National Schools Spellathon, 2002.
Spellathon is a sponsored spelling test for school pupils using Oxford University Press approved lists.
It has been running successfully since 1994. Pupils are sponsored per word and each word they spell correctly earns money for Mencap. The 2001 Spellathon raised a fantastic £100k, which is already helping to improve the lives of thousands of children and adults with a learning disability.
February and March are the Spellathon months, but you can take part at anytime throughout the year.
All you have to do is call 0845 977 7779 to request your free Spellathon pack. Each pack contains lists of words, which are graded so that teachers can choose the most suitable ones for their pupils; a lesson plan, two posters, registration and sponsorship forms, stickers and a list of prizes. The top fundraising school will win a computer and a printer.
