FIREFIGHTERS in Bewdley have warned the consequences could be dire after young arsonists torched nine trees in eight weeks.
Bewdley Fire Station sub officer Paul Gittins cited an incident where crews from Bewdley and Stourport were tied up with two separate tree blazes - and therefore unable to back up crews in Kidderminster tackling a potentially fatal fire.
On Tuesday, October 9 two appliances dealt with separate tree fires in Wyre Hill and Lakes Road - at the same time as a Kidderminster crew needed assistance with a report of people trapped, which fortunately turned out to be a false alarm.
Mr Gittins said: "Other crews have needed our assistance and we've been running round Bewdley putting out tree fires.
"We think it's irresponsible kids and the police are investigating.
"They obviously think it's great fun but they could be putting other people at risk."
