A BROADWAY farmer and horse trainer who was at the wheel of an unfamiliar left-hand drive car when involved in an accident, drove on without stopping at the scene.

Nigel Tabor, aged 47, of Lybrook Farm, pleaded guilty at Evesham court on Tuesday to careless driving on April 21 and failing to stop after an accident.

He was fined £330, with £80 costs and his previously clean licence endorsed with five penalty points.

Julian Harris, prosecuting, said the accident occurred on the Honeybourne to Bidford road at Bickmarsh.

There was a line of four cars travelling towards Honeybourne when Tabor rounded a bend from the opposite direction and straddled the white line in the centre of the road.

"One of the cars was forced off the road and another was hit," Mr Harris said.

"Tabor did not stop and he was followed to Bidford where he did stop and gave his name and address when asked."

In an interview with police later, Tabor said he did not realise at first what had happened and thought he might have just hit a bump in the road.

Kirsty Real, counsel for Tabor, pointed out the evidence of an expert would have been that the combined speed of the two vehicles was very low.

"Tabor does not accept that he went very far over the white line, but, because there was an impact, agrees that he did cross it," she said.

"Because his windows were closed he did not hear a big noise and he did not notice immediately that his wing mirror was broken.

"He then decided to pull in near Bidford bridge."
