WITH so much criticism in the Press about the NHS and its uncaring staff, I felt I must write in praise of Ronkswood Hospital.

My mother was admitted to Ward 10 Ronkswood on September 12. She was frail, breathless and tired. Three months before she was fit and active.

The medical team led by Dr Lewis was superb - no stone was left unturned in their bid to determine the cause of her illness. Test results were acted upon speedily.

The nursing staff were lovely, always a ready smile and cheerful word, despite being desperately short-staffed and overworked on a very busy ward.

The catering staff provided an interesting, tasty menu with good quality food. Meals were the highlight of the day for mum.

On Wednesday, September 26 the diagnosis was confirmed - secondary liver cancer. My mother elected to come home and this too was arranged speedily, efficiently and with compassion.

Mum lived for five more days, dying on Wednesday, October 3, peacefully and with dignity, her family around her.

This five days were enhanced by the caring support of a wonderful team of district nurses and auxiliaries.

Even after her death, the care continued. Her GP (Dr Busher) and one of the district nurses both took time out of their busy day to phone and offer their condolences. My family and I are extremely grateful for all the care and support.

ANNE NOBLE,

Malvern.
