POLICE investigating the death of Sorren Prosser following fighting in Evesham in the early hours of October 6 are trying to piece together events leading up to the incidents.
Mr Prosser, aged 26, of Corn Mill, Elmley Castle, died as a result of his injuries in Ronkswood Hospital, Worcester, last Thursday.
Detective Inspector Dave Bartlett, who is leading the investigation - which he said was a murder investigation - said Mr Prosser intervened to calm down a fight outside the Bodrum Kebab House, High Street but in doing so was himself assaulted.
DI Bartlett led a team of policemen at the scene of the fighting late on Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday hoping to find people able to fill in gaps of what went on.
He said on Monday: "Several potential witnesses have been identified and investigations are continuing."
DI Bartlett said: "This was a tragic death of a young man who lost his life simply because he tried to calm down a violent situation.
"There were a lot of people in the area at the time and it is vital that we speak to anyone who witnessed events leading up to this tragic incident or who has any information that will help us with our inquiries."
He added: "This tragedy has rocked a community that is unused to violence of this type.
"I am sure there are still people who were coming out of pubs and clubs in the early hours of that Saturday morning who may have information.
"I am also keen to hear from fairground workers who were in Evesham with the Mop Fair that weekend but have now moved on."
Five people were arrested following the incident. Three were charged and released on bail by magistrates to return to court at Droitwich next Wednesday.
A sixth was arrested on October 11 and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
DI Bartlett appealed to anyone with information that might help to contact the incident room set up at Worcester Police Station on 01905 723888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Mr Prosser worked at Johnson Security, based on the Orchard Industrial Estate, Toddington, as did his father Russell and step-mother Sue, who live in Evesham and have been devastated by his death.
He went to Swan Lane First School, Simon de Montfort Middle School and Evesham High School, and had played in the Johnson Security five-a-side soccer team.
