VANDALISM to play areas looks likely to hit Upton ratepayers in the pocket.
The town council signalled that the precept on taxpayers will have to be raised in order to pay for the damage, when the matter was discussed at a meeting on Tuesday.
Coun Eric White told members of the damage done to the children's play area in New Street.
"Broken glass was left beneath the swings, vomit on the slide, fish and chip wrappers were left all over the place and the outer fence will have to be completely replaced," he said.
"It's going to cost this council money and we are going to have to ask for quite an increase in the precept for the open spaces committee."
He also warned that the council will prosecute those responsible for the damage wherever possible.
