HAVING attended Sir Roy Strong's lecture on October 13 in the cinema at the Malvern Theatres, I am indignant and ashamed at how poorly hearing aid users are treated there. Sir Roy was using a microphone, but it was with difficulty that I struggled to hear even a fraction of what he said.
Many churches in Malvern have the 'loop system' and put the theatres to shame. If that lecture had been held in the Baptist church or in Guarlford parish church, the two which I attend regularly, I would have heard every word clearly and effortlessly.
I have also on various occasions tried out the high-tech infra-red system which is installed in the theatre and in the Forum. It has always been disappointing and often a complete failure.
Large numbers of hearing aid users attend the theatres. Please let us have the well tried loop system - if necessary, this could be installed in a limited section of the seating area (but not the most expensive), as is the case I the Priory church.
EDWARD WILLIAMS, Penny Lane, Guarlford, Malvern.
