AT this time 50 years ago, special events were being held to mark the centenary of the Chapel of the Worcester Royal Infirmary, which, of course, means it is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
The chapel was opened in 1851 as a result of charity funds raised by Jenny Lind (pictured), the legendary "Swedish Nightingale" who lived for some years at Malvern.
A special service was held in the Chapel in 1951 when the sermon was given by the Bishop of Worcester, Dr. W. Wilson Cash and the lesson was read by Professor Seymour Barling.
The bishop said it was impossible to separate work for the body from that for the soul. As members of the Church, everyone carried a Christian responsibility to the patients, whether they be doctors, nurses or chaplains.
