A SCRAPPY nervous first half performance from Welland in this Mercian Elgar U15's League fixture was punished by Newtown, last season's league champions, with a well struck goal from Will Clee after 25 minutes.

WELLAND JUNIORS 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS 1

Only Adam Lacey and James Smith at the back for Welland prevented Newtown scoring more goals.

The second half saw Welland come out with a new found determination and for 20 minutes they pinned Newtown back - Tom Holland and captain Joe Taylor running the midfield and Gareth Witts and Gerald Chance causing problems in Newtown's defence - at times only goalkeeper Cullen keeping Welland at bay.

Inevitably an equaliser came, Tom Crump clinically finishing an excellent Welland attack. But Newtown bounced back in search of a winner and it almost came in the dying minutes but Forrester cleared off the line.

Man of the match for Welland was Adam Lacey.

Next match for Newtown Sports v Pershore Town at home. Players meet 2pm at Lower Howsell Road.

The second half saw the game swing towards Newtown and two more goals looked to have settled the result but Welland received some reward for their efforts with a good goal from Martyn Smith who took the ball from inside his own half and finished with a powerful shot.

Two further goals from Newtown towards the end of the game completed the scoring. The Newtown scorers were David Reynolds (three), James Philpotts and Kris Denslow. Man of the match for Welland was Josh Brentnall and for Newtown, Gareth Jones.

NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 12,

WORCESTER JUNIORS 0

NEWTOWN Sports Boys were in control in this Mercian Elgar Under 12's Junior League game from the kick off.

With Adam Johnson scoring within five minutes, Jamie Ferguson then took on the Worcester defence and scored his first. A nice pass from Lee Hammond allowed Ricky Buckland to lob one over the keeper. A high ball across the box gave Johnson his second and Hammond scored with a nice strike from 18 yards out. Philip Harris curled in a corner which took a deflection and went in the net.

Play continued in the second half with Newtown still on the attack and Harris took an excellent free kick from 22 yards to put it straight over the keeper. After a few near misses Ferguson finally got his second. Ben Hardy worked hard and was rewarded in the end when he knocked in a cross from Holbrow. Johnson had an excellent game scoring five goals in the end.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 2, BROMYARD TOWN JUNIORS 4

THIS top of the table clash of the Mercian Elgar U12's Junior League produced a thrilling game.

During the first half Bromyard had the edge. They had three chances on goal and the talented Tom Gwynne took them all expertly.

Facing this big deficit in the second half Wanderers stormed back in fine style. Excellent passing and movement produced great goals for Paul Jordan and Jack Higgs. Several more chances went begging as the Bromyard defence began to panic. But as they pressed forward for the equaliser, Wanderers left space at the back and Daniel Lewis got away against the run of play for the decisive winner for Bromyard.

CLAINES JUNIORS U11S 2,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 3

COLTS started off sluggishly as Claines applied the early pressure and opened the scoring after an interception.

The Colts drew level when Tom Hale glanced in a fine header from a Wesley Powell corner.

At half-time James Gath and Ben Hunt came on for Jamie Caffull and Max Elmes, as the Colts moved up a gear when they took the lead. David Roskams found Jacob Buckle in the area and he turned to finish coolly .

Several minutes later, in a replica of his first goal, Jacob Buckle increased the lead. Claines came back at the Colts and grabbed themselves with a long range shot.

The last few minutes were frantic as Claines sought an equaliser and the Colts looked to restore a two goal cushion. However, the Colts (sponsored by Cotteswold Dairies) hung on for the victory.

LYPPARD RANGERS BOYS 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS 1

JUNIORS travelled to Lyppard for this Mercian Elgar U11's League fixture and came away with a point.

The first half was a very lacklustre performance from Juniors and they created only a few decent chances, most notably a James McCann effort after being put through by Craig Preece in which the Lyppard keeper made a fine save at his feet. It was Lyppard who got on the score sheet first when their striker raced onto a fine pass.

The second half Juniors came out all guns blazing and created numerous chances. They eventually got their equaliser from Dan Robinson who volleyed home from a poor clearance. Further efforts from Lee Gittins, Tom Clack and Max Sharp went close.

Man of the match was Tom Clack.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U9S 3, MARTLEY SPURS 0

MALVERN Town Wanderers at last got back to winning ways with an excellent performance to mark their first home game at their new ground, The Langland Stadium.

Wanderers were confident going forward and it wasn't long before Jordan Johnson played a great pass to Harry Gregory who slotted home for a well deserved lead. Wanderers continued to press forward and were rewarded when Jonathan Hughes crossed superbly to the far post and Harry Gregory slid in with a great shot to take Wanderers into half time leading 2-0.

In the second half Adam Green, Alex Stockwell and Jack Probert pushed forward effectively and they would have scored a couple more goals if it wasn't for the agility of the Spurs goalkeeper. Wanderers second half goalkeeper, Kit Holden, made a couple of fine saves and Harry Gregory scored again to complete a hat-trick.

Wanderers' man of the match: Harry Gregory.
