FROMES Hill and Brewery fought out a mammouth encounter in the Malvern Football League Sunday Senior Cup with the result being decided by penalties.
In the end Fromes Hill won this tie after Gary Cheshire's penalty save from Owen Meale ultimately secured victory 8-7. This evenly matched game started well for the home side Fromes Hill who deserved their 15th minute lead through Dave Eaton, after controlling much of the opening period. As the first half wore on Brewery pegged themselves back into the game and were rewarded with an equaliser from Owen Meale after 35 minutes, however minutes before the interval the home side broke past the Brewery defence to see Andy Brimmell fire past Mick Haron for a half time lead.
In the second period it remained 2-1 until 62 minutes when an unmarked Owen Meale headed a goal inside the penalty area to level the scores for a second time. It was Dave Eaton who again gave Fromes Hill another lead after 75 minutes, however only 8 minutes later and Ali Barnes made it 3-3. Into extra time and chances fell to both sides, but some good defending kept the goals intact for the extra 30 minutes.
Penalties then came and it was 4-4 until Gary Cheshire's intervention allowed Shaun Taylor to fire in the winner from 12 yards to see Fromes Hill into the next round.
Kempsey United replicated their League form to secure their passage in the cup after a 6-2 victory away at Bell Inn 98. Tony Reynolds had given the home side an early lead, however a quick fire 10 minute spell before the interval saw Bell Inn 98 concede four times to go in at the break 1-4 down.
In the second period United added to their tally with a fifth and it was Tony Reynolds who gave some hope to Bell Inn 98 with his second of the game. However it was United who finished the stronger of the two sides and secured their sixth goal to win through to the last eight. Kempsey scorers were Steve Frear (four), Ryan Leigh and Luke Yeomans.
In the remaining Sunday Senior Cup tie last Sunday was Club AC 30 and Morgan Aero 8 at Perdiswell and it was the home side who returned to victory with a 6-1 win.
The home side took a 4-1 lead after 45 minutes through Aaron Parr (two), an own goal and a Jason Payton-Smith effort before the interval. In the second period Payton-Smith secured his hat-trick with a further two goals to put their name in the hat for the next round draw.
