MALVERN Squash Club Firsts opening home match looked to have been a straightforward affair but close inspection showed all the variety that this sport can produce.
MALVERN SC 4, BARNT GREEN 1
Robin Broad was back at number three sporting a swollen and bruised nose from an earlier match and his determined running and retrieving brought him a hard earned victory against the muscular and energetic Steve Griffin.
However Lorraine Wilde, playing at five, was often left helpless by the changes of pace and direction of Steve Stowe's squash and did well to take one game.
Elevated to number two this season, Kevin Sandercock beat his skilful opponent in five hard games.
New club champion Nigel Long had his now customary straightforward win against Rob Garvin.
The Malvern number four, George Leeds, has improved out of all recognition since first wearing team colours and was altogether too skilful for Anthony Trevis.
RESULTS: Nigel Long bt Rob Garvin 9-2, 9-2, 9-3; Kevin Sandercock bt John Cartwright 2-9, 9-7, 9-2, 3-9, 9-6; Robin Broad bt Steve Griffin 7-9, 9-4, 9-5, 7-9, 9-2; George Leeds bt Anthony Trevis 9-4, 9-7, 9-3; Lorraine Wilde lost to Steve Stowe 1-9, 9-10, 9-5, 6-9.
