IN Division Three of the Malvern Table Tennis League, Police and Crackpots C had their usual close contest with five sets needing extra games and 12 of the games played being won by only two points.
Malcolm Dalley won two and Alan Holmes and Colin Gale one each for Police while Stan Ginn won three, and Richard Cullis two singles and the doubles with Ed Palmer in Crackpots 6-4 win.
The youngest of the junior teams, Express Juniors are gaining in confidence with every match and Ben and Josh Salisbury each won a game and Ben came close to winning two others in the same set, losing to Anthony Wiseman 1-11, 10-12, 11-4, 10-12. Tom James was the other successful junior for the B team.
Roy Wu took Ted Cates to 11-8 in their fifth game of the first set when Crackpots B entertained Abbey College B. Roy and Ted were also both involved when the doubles set went to Crackpots by 15-13 in the fifth game.
Ray Davis of Manor Park Maulers won two sets to give his team their first point of the season against Malvern Juniors C. Rick Halford was also close to winning a set when he lost in the fifth game to Alan Sage.
Bill Lucas was the only player for Abbeydowne to win all his sets but David Smith took one game from him and Joe Higgs won two games and only lost the fifth by 11-8. David and Joe each won two and James Clarke two as well for the A team.
