KINGSLEY Jones is hoping Coventry's signing of Zinzan Brooke will have a knock-on effect for the National One title race.

Worcester Rugby Club's skipper has been watching goings on this week with great interest as the All Black legend signed for the Coundon Road club who recently won 31-22 at Sixways.

For Jones, the number eight's switch will add real competition in a league which Rotherham, at present, are running away with.

"I think it's a good thing," he said. "I played with Zinny in his last game for the Barbarians and he seemed sure he was going to finish.

"I will be a bit surprised if he plays Saturday to Saturday with them but, you never know, maybe he will. He's a fantastic player and, as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad because we want some sides to challenge Rotherham.

"People target us and Rotherham every week and if we can even the league out a bit, all the better."

Jones, who now accepts Worcester will probably have to go to Rotherham and win in January if they are to achieve their dream of promotion, believes it is the smaller games that could yet trip Worcester up further.

"My worry is not going to Rotherham," he added. "My worry is the games in between. The ones where people think the wins and bonus points are in the bag before we get on the pitch.

"Games like Coventry are my worry - the banana skins just waiting to happen.

"Don't worry about the big games, it's the so-called smaller ones which concern me. I think, though, that the squad are not going to let us repeat the Coventry result."
