Carlisle should have taken the lead on 29 minutes when Soley released Foran through the fence but the strikers weak shot was blocked by the advancing Nixon.
The home side's Soley went into the referee's book on 33 minutes for a rash late challenge on left-back Stamps.
Nixon then held a low long range effort from Carlisle's on-loan midfielder McGill.
